Drug Prevention Dialogue at Multicultural Helping House Society

In recognition of the impact of the drug problem in the city and the value of public participation in addressing this problem, the City of Vancouver is gearing up for a series of dialogues with various community groups across the city. Part of the City of Vancouver's Drug Policy Program, the Framework for Action: A Four Pillar Approach to Drug Problems in Vancouver these dialogues form a series of public discussions which will inform and shape the drug prevention strategy for Vancouver.

The Multicultural Helping House Society has been invited to take part in these dialogues as representatives for the Filipino population in Vancouver. This invitation is now extended to members of our Filipino community who would like to contribute their time and opinions to what had become a serious public health crisis not only in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside but across our city.

We are looking for participants from diverse backgrounds and experiences for example, health care workers with first hand experience with drug use in their patients, concerned parents and youths, and educators to name a few. There are two dialogues planned and individuals are ideally able to commit to attend 2 dialogue sessions. However, if there are scheduling conflicts with other commitments, are still welcomed.

The dialogues will be held on consecutive Tuesdays, June 28 and July 06 from 6 to 8 pm at the Multicultural Helping House Centre. Refreshments will be provided to participants. This is a unique opportunity to become part of an innovative drug prevention strategy, as this program is the only one in North America. Together, we will explore the prevention of problematic drug use and identify potential strategies for action and change.

For further information or to participate in the dialogues, please contact JR Guerrero or Stephanie dela Pe?a at the Multicultural Helping House Society at 604-879-3277.
